About the Rescue: The dogs rescued by Good Shepherd K9 are in foster homes where they are treated as part of the family. There are currently only 3 foster homes and this is their number one need!
About the Director: Sherry Pederquist, President of Good Shepherd K9, has been involved in rescue since she was a child, bringing home homeless cats, dogs, skunks, injured birds and any animal that needed help. She has always had a special place in her heart for the "underdog." Her favorite thing about being involved in rescue is seeing a dog be able to run & play freely in the large fenced-in area she provides, and eventually go off to a forever home that she knows will provide the best of care for the rest of a dog's life.
News: This group recently had a big surprise. They discovered one of the dogs they rescued is going to have puppies. Mom and babies will be up for adoption sometime in April 2011! You can see "Scooby" on K-9's website.
Animals Accepted: Dogs - from high kill shelters and owner surrenders
Operations & Funding: Private donations and adoption fees. Group members often pay for food and other necessities out of pocket when they don't get enough donations. This is a small group that is always in need of financial support.
Adoptions: Intake is approximately 100 dogs a year and they try to adopt out all of them. Occasionally, a dog comes into the rescue that is not adoptable due to shyness, illness, etc. and it ends up staying with the foster home indefinitely. Home visits are done for each dog to ensure the dog is welcome and he or she gets along with any existing dog or cat in the household.
Why We Like Good Shepherd K9: Because they have been dedicated to getting dogs out of high kill shelters since 1998!
